Heirloom crochet WIP gift

Hello Lovelies :-)
And welcome to Angela of Cottage Magpie (here) and to my Mum and Dad
who are new followers.

I had a fabulous surprise on Saturday when the postman made his delivery....
...a package from my mum :-)
Thanks so much Mum xx

I have no memories of this project and I would love to know if it was before my time or when i was very young.
Mum has always been a crafter of all sorts but I cannot remember seeing her crochet except for when mum taught me as a teenager.

So here it is...

...and some closeups of those tiny wee stitches...

...and the matching thread plus a yummy yellow ombre one (you know how i have a thing about yellow at the moment!)...

The ecru is...

Shade 609,  dyelot N564
I don't think Coats produce cotton thread like this anymore.

I think I may make another cushion to go with the cushion I'm going to make with this.
Maybe I'll use it with the yellow fabric...
I know...another excuse to play!

(Oh, I nearly forgot....the pattern is lost but I may be able to figure it out.)

I will, of course, show you what the outcome is but it might be a little while as I am trying to finish the hand quilting on the vintage hexie quilt.
I'm making good progress.

********

Thank you all for your comments and emails on my last two posts :-)
I wasn't happy with how the last post turned out...
I was stressing over it and pushed myself to publish it in the early hours one morning
....not a good move as it caused me even more stress later that day when I realised it didn't read the way i had intended..

Oops!

Thanks for bearing with me.

Ttfn xxxx
Tracey

    1. Hi Julie :-) Ah yes... I think I know who you are :-) Welcome!
What I meant was that Coats no longer produce crochet thread, just sewing thread.
Thanks so much for popping by,

    3. If you are the Julie I'm thinking of then after leaving a local craft shop you worked just around the corner in an oh so lovely little vintage shop... The shop is still there but as I haven't been in for some months I don't know if you are still there... If it is indeed you :-) Lol! I doubt you will remember me but I bought a vintage floral porcelain broach as a gift and I think you said it was one from your own collection...

  3. Tracey don't be hard on yourself; I think that being happy with some posts and less happy with others is just the way blogging is, I have found that too, and I look back on some posts and wince, but it's all about moving forwards and learning what works and what doesn't. Your blog is great! X

  5. How lovely of your Mum to pass this on to you Tracy, I hope that you can work out the pattern so that you can continue it. Don't stress about blogging, everyone writes things that they think afterwards they would have written differently, or included different photos and so on - well I hope that they do! I know that I do. If I could go back I would change them, but onwards and upwards is my motto. It is definitely not worth stressing about that is for sure! xx

  9. Lovely crochet from your Mum Tracy, I used to make that kind of crochet all the time but now I find it hard to crochet with fine cotton, I hope you can figure out the pattern it would be lovely if you could make something out of them I found some motifs that I had made about 35 years ago, I intended making a table cover with them, I soon got fed up because there are only eight of them but they are very pretty. Don't fret about blog posts we are all the same, but really it doesn't matter. :) xx

  11. How wonderful of your Mum to gift you these cottons. I picked up some no 20 Coats cottons from the Hospice op shop a few weeks ago, ecru and that very same yellow gold variegated cotton. It had James Smith stickers on selling at $1.10. James Smiths have been closed for over 20 years! Isn't it a small world. I am making a table cloth with it. Enjoy!

finished :-) I cannot imagine making something that big. What size hook are you using?

  16. it's beautiful and almost lace! I could see it attached to the front of a journal in a kind of mixed media effect. I have just brought a lovely journal so I would say that! I can only crochet with this narrow thread for a certain amount of time. I use some on my heart garlands. Be kind to yourself on this blogging journey! your a lovely lady. Heather X

  17. Oh Heather that is so kind :-)
What a lovely idea about the journal. Are you going to decorate your new journal?
Your blog slipped of my bloglovin radar again...how peculiar is that! Hopefully I am now following you again. I wonder if it's happened with other blogs I follow(ed) and i haven't noticed?
    Have a lovely week
